One of our first conflicts with the bears was actually created by the members of the Bear League and their supporters. The Bear League has continued to interfere with the efforts of the Dept. of Fish & Game to monitor and control the marauding bears thereby causing additional problems for local residents.
A female black bear, known as 64F, and her three male cubs were captured after officials found her responsible for 21 DNA-confirmed home break-ins and extensive property damage in the South Lake Tahoe area between February 2022 and May, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
After the capture of black bear 64F, the Bear League engaged in a massive campaign to pressure the California Department of Fish & Wildlife to release the bear. Two days after it was released, it smashed in our front door and ransacked the house causing thousands of dollars in damage. It should never have been released back into a residential community where it could victimize others. The Bear League didn’t even offer to provide restitution for the damages.
Having your home broken into is a traumatic experience under any circumstances, having your life put in endangered by a 700-pound wild animal that can kill you with a single swipe of its paw if you inadvertently startle it is even more terrifying than having an armed criminal break into your home – at least you can reason with the criminal.

A female black bear, known as 64F aka: Hank the Tank caught on camera exiting home after smashing down door and ransacking house. The identity was confirmed by DNA samples processed by the California Department of Fish & Wildlife.
This bear was not killed as claimed by the Bear Leaguers, just banished from the City of South Lake Tahoe to a nature preserve.
